The City of Windom’s street system consists of 28 miles of paved hard surfacing and 5 miles of gravel streets. The department has six full-time staff persons and one seasonal worker. The department’s staff performs all of the basic street maintenance, including snow removal, pothole repair, boulevard tree maintenance, storm sewer maintenance, street sign maintenance, and street cleaning services. The staff also maintains the city’s parks including mowing and maintenance of park facilities. They also assist other City departments throughout the year. Our large construction projects are handled by outside firms. Our staff takes extreme pride in keeping the city clean and beautiful throughout the seasons.
The equipment owned by the City Street Department includes three 2 ½ ton dump trucks with snow removal attachments, 2 front end pay loaders (one of which has a large front-end mounted snow blower), motor grader, street sweeper, plus other units that aid in our efforts to keep the community running smoothly and looking good.
Throughout the year the department also assists several businesses and organizations with special events. Those events include the City of Windom’s annual Riverfest celebration which is held during the second weekend of June.
Perhaps a committee should be formed first, to make a decision on the aforementioned proposal, of selecting which civil servant, should do their job of selecting a city of Windom employee to update the site. < sarc off> The TAXPAYERS of the city, would hope that the bureaucracy could be simplified to facilitate the smooth operation for all of the city of Windom's departments. 11/9/16 the City of Windom Street Department has around 150+ yards of FA2 Red Rock for sale for $10.00 per/yard. This material was swept up following our street seal coat projects. There maybe some debris in the material but basically it is pretty clean. This would be great for placing around field tile or foundations just to name a few. It will not pack as there isn't a binder in the rock, so we wouldn't recommend using it on driveways etc. Contact the street department if you are interested. We will load during our open hours free of charge. ... See MoreSee Less
Message to the Citizens of Windom Snow & Ice on Sidewalks Policy for all Property Owners Many Windom residents use public sidewalks on a daily year-around basis. Shoppers, workers, mailmen and delivery people make use of our sidewalks everyday. Some of this usage occurs under adverse situations such as paper delivery in the dark and emergency medical, police and fire protection on a 24-hour basis regardless of weather conditions. Snow and ice that is not promptly removed increase the risk of liability creates a potentially hazardous situation. The City of Windom requires that property owners remove all snow and ice from the complete width and length of any public sidewalk abutting their property within twelve (12) hours after said snow and ice has ceased to be deposited. This will reduce the risk of liability and help alleviate the dangerous condition. The City will remove snow and ice from public sidewalks in the event that the property owner does not do it within the specified time. Cost for this removal shall be certified to the abutting property owner for collection with real estate taxes as other specified assessments are certified and collected. Lets all be good neighbors and show city residents and visitors alike that Windom is working together to be a winner. Questions Contact Street Superintendent 507-831-6137 ... See MoreSee Less
