FAST Global Solutions Employees Receive Job Skills Partnership Training

~Alexandria Technical and Community College to deliver welding, assembly and
quality training for 405 workers~

ST PAUL – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has awarded Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) a $254,094 grant under the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) to train 405 employees of FAST Global Solutions.

“FAST leadership has set a course for growth, and that includes increasing the skillsets of their current workforce and anticipate adding 125 jobs over the next two years,” said DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy. “This grant is expected to support that growth and ultimately result in greater online training capacity at Alexandria Technical and Community College.”

With support from Governor Mark Dayton and the Minnesota legislature, the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program has awarded $40.4 million since 2011 to train 47,028 workers and has leveraged $79.8 million in private funding.

FAST Global Solutions is the result of a recent merger between WASP, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of non-powered ground support equipment for the airline and air cargo industry and a manufacturer of conveyors for the parcel delivery industry, and FAST Manufacturing, an agricultural sprayers and fertilizer equipment manufacturer. The company currently has about 450 employees at their Glenwood and Windom facilities.

In the three-year project, ATCC will collaborate with FAST to develop and deliver training in four areas: Leadership Development, Process Development, Enterprise Resource Planning and Human Management System software training, and Manufacturing/Fabrication/Welding.

In addition, online courses in Press Brakes, Laser/Plasma, Welding Symbols, Blue Print Reading, Assembly and Safety will be customized to FAST’s equipment. Trainees who complete welding coursework successfully will earn certification from the American Welding Society.

The MJSP works strategically with businesses and educational institutions to train or retrain workers, expand work opportunities and keep high-quality jobs in the state.
